Hey guys,

I have been trying for a while now to create that fantastic "ow ow" sound with a 303... i figured that it was done by automating the cutoff but i am wrong!

I can post a soundclip if you guys are unsure of what i mean.

thanks!!

if u're using vanguard, try out the preset named 'teebee' n add a lil modulation(not much) to the cutoff using an lfo...if u want the sound to be more round like 'mwow' then in the mod. envelope, put the attack n release to 0 n play arnd with the decay n sustain till u get the sound...hope that helped

i think he is talking about slide.

basically in your sequencer, write a long note, and say for example in the middle of the note have a much higher note start as well. when glide is turned off the synth will act like a true mono and trigger the new note. when u turn on glide/slide/portamento/whateveritscalledonyoursynth, instead of triggering a new note the old note will slowly (depending on how turned up glide amount is) bend in pitch towards the new note.

along with some of the cutoff tweaks associated with tbs this will give you what you are looking for.

Sound like you want accents. Accent + low cutoff, medium/high resonance makes a "wow" sound on a 303.

Hi...

Id you have a real 303, I wonder how you can not make a "ow" sound..?

If you mean accents, it more like "bouw"
And if you mean slide it's more like "njeeeg"

"automatizing cutoff" certainly has nothing to do with it, since original 303 can not do that.

Typical sound you get as AvS has decribed. For the real "bouw" you need resonance full open, envelope closed, decay full open, cutoff as you wish.

I have tried pretty much all emulations and compared them to my original. Phosycon comes closest, many of the emulation cover a lot the original does, but none of them does the real "accent - bouw" as the original does. Especially with different cutoff settings.
Just in my ears.

Good luck.           Most of my music for you to download at:
