i like the character of the kick on 3rd.
id rather dance to 1st though. the clickyness is almost a little much, might drown in a crowdy mix anyway.
:O!

3rd sounds good, but way too much side-chaining Pumping all around!
I would put the 1st one in second place, but it sounds a bit plastic - try taking out (or modulating out with an envelope) a tad of the mid-bass of it.
Keep it going make a tune with each of these basses (one for each, one with all.. up to you )

the kick in 3 sounds best to my ears, but imho the bass doesn't accompany it well. i'd use kick 3 with another bass patch. |

Still lots of pumping going around - not that I can really hear much difference in such a dense low end (seems heavily compressed), but since you say your are messing the kick settings, I could perhaps state that the kick at the end is slightly tighter.. but that could be due to the compression (shorter kick will have a lesser drive on the compressor).
Nevertheless it's sounding good man. Make the whole tune, don't stay too long on details (personally I would use a shelf to take a bit of the mids and highs out of the bass, its very audible in this range.. but then again psytrance of 2015 has different standards..)
P.S.: listening to the 3min track and 1min track a bunch of times really takes longer than 30 seconds

this! I'd use a high shelf on the Kick to, so it doesn't sound as ear piercing on the Highs, but doesn't sound unnatural either, like it would with a Low Pass filter. A very wide and smooth bell can work to - pultec style. |

Pultec kind of EQ works great on the individual channels as well, for both Kick and Bass, for many reasons: their gentle curves for one, the low end trick (boost+attenuation simultaneously), the dips on the mids usually are easy to set and do the job nicely + if you have some fancy emulation of it, likes waves or UAD, it also brings some juicy harmonics to the table.
Now about that kick again. You can do that, the layering of a hat on the Kick for more presence and to have those shinny high frequencies there. Layering is fine.
But you still need to balance the sound and high shelfs or the kind of curves on a EQP-1A, which is a very wide bell, is needed for controlling just the right amount of highs we allow it to have. It's all about being subtle, but surely a lot of highs gets painful and sounds wrong on a full mix - 'cause you simply need the space for other sounds.
All about having it pass through the mix, clearly, having all those frequencies there, nice presence, but not overwhelming. It's all about having the right amounts of all these things. |
