"Many artist and DJ's struggle to get booked at Festivals and parties these days and have a very hard time to be "allowed" to make the music they like to make without having Record labels telling them how to make the music according to their idea of how it should sound like. It is a puzzle why our scene has turned in this direction and why it is that so many talented artists time after time have to be told that there's no room for them at the Festivals/parties, the spots are all booked, try next year etc. or that they can come and play for free and by the way also pay their own transportation. It would also be nice to to know why there is no room at the Mainstages for those artists that make less fast but yet very danceable music and why so many organizers think that music that do not fit the category of "fast music" instantly have to be chill-out or downbeat and by that interfere with real chill-out and downbeat at the chill-out stages. Chill-out stages that soon become anything but chill-out and downbeat to the regret of many talented chillout/downbeat artists and the audience there.

It is also a puzzle why so many Label's seem to believe that quantity over quality is better and that they know better than the artists how their music should sound or how fast it should be. It is time to ask them some questions and hear why so many of them think faster copy & paste music is better than personal style and individuality.

E-mails has been send out to as many organizers, labels and artists as possible and informed them about this website and Forum and asked them kindly to participate with their honest answers and input. There are no "trick" questions to them and it is in no way an atempt to point fingers at anyone.
But the time has come where the many problems and issues has top come out in the open and see if we via information and a constructive debate hopefully can change things a little for the better. For all of us. You the organizers, labels, artists and not to forget the many people that love the music and year after year loyal visit the Festivals and "buy" the music. Everybody have been informed that their answers will be posted un-edited at this website and that it is up to them to participate or not."

Well i'ts good that you and Kristian are trying to change the attitude of the scene and not compromise on your way of music creation. But changing the world is a hard mission, almost impossible. Some kind of change must be dun in music - but not a change that will make you feel that your music is something that is going to be written only to get you into big fest, music that will be as stranger to it's writer. btw- is it really that important to you to be in the big fest? is that a scale to masseur you level?

IMHO you should ask Yuli Fershthat on this subject, I do not know him personally but I think he was in the same situation and made a 'switch' - a wise kind of switch and now things goes way better for him. His Blt project was gr8 and now his Perfect Srtanger is Absolutely brilliant.
So good luck, I hope you'll find the middle road.

Well, back in the 90's Elysium was one of the reasons i've started loving trance, and it's a pity that this is happening now, cause i still think of him as one of the best. And even if it is not so, it is doesn't mater, organizers shouldn't treat anyone this way. If you'd agreed on something- do it, and don't come up with lame excuses.

Hi There,

I would like to add a wee point that I belive is relevant to this discussion. My name is Tom and I am a live act from New Zealand called C.O.S.M. Two years ago I sent off exactly 50 demo cds of my live act to festivals/promoters/labels, as well as 50 hand written personalised letters.

Two our of fifty people replied. The first of these was Twisted Records in the UK, who sent a very nice email full of substance and constructive feedback.

The second was Boom festival, who enjoyed the music, and have consequently shelled out the (quite unreasonably expensive to be honest) travel costs to fly me over to perform this upcoming August.

When Boom received my demo, I had no presence in the scene and no releases, yet they put all that aside and let my music speak for itself!

Now I can finally give my performance to a large audience, something which I have been ready for and have been trying to do for a good 2 years.

So, my point is you can cross Boom festival and Good Mood LDA off the list (if there is a list!) because in my opinion, they are doing their part by giving upcoming artists the opportunity to play at a large festivals.

Hope to see you guys there!

BOOM

some valid points there. However, I don't really get his story with the festival booking- why didn't he make a contract with exactly all details?

it's nice to make this discussion, but also it sounds a bit like whining to me, this wole thing- this is the world, what, he sudenly awake from his feiry world to find out its humans in the trance scene?

but maybe something positive will come out of talking about this. I for sure agree with most of the things he writes.
