yah i heard about this and i cant even believe they even have a ridiculous dancing ban anywhere in the states, that kinda shit exists back home in Bangalore, India a lotta of ppl protested it over there. But anywayz good scene in Iowa and good luck, and like the beastie boys once said..... fight for your right to parttttttttttttttttttttaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!

Footloose, indeed.
Clubs in Dallas need a permit to allow dancing. Once one failed to apply for it and the cops came in and started giving people tickets. True story....

The city of Dallas actually has a no dancing after 2am law without a dance permit..... yep that's right you have to pay the city a permit fee to dance after 2am. Most of the clubs in Dallas close at 2am but there are some that close later. If the close later it's a large chunk of money to have a year long dance permit. There are still plenty of afterhours,warehouse parties going on in the city but they can be messed with if they don't have legal stuff under control.
Luckily we don't have to worry about this because we go to the woods way outside of Dallas!

massive progress is being made on the law and there will be a temporary permit available soon until it is totally abolished, from what it sounds like.
if anyone knows JeffZ from Iowa, he is the primary organizer of the political movement in Des Moines.

UPDATE 07/17/09:
Comedy Central's 'THE COLBERT REPORT' recently contacted the owner of the Des Moines Social Club music, art, and dance venue, to interview him regarding the 2AM Dance Law!
This is the venue where it all started, the venue where we had Spring Equinox planned, but because of the dance law we had to move it to Iowa City.
perhaps they will even mention trance-dancing on the show, who knows!!!
will keep everyone posted with details as they emerge...

maybe we should have the owner of the dm social club mention us on the colbert report or even have a video of fractal fields uploaded? would this be too much anyone think? as long as we knew it wouldnt backfire or anything but so far the whole issue has gotten nothing but positive response so we might just be able to get a little good light on the iowa psy scene on comedy central
