Answers.

1. Exactly the same way you connect one monitor. Dual head vga card is needed.

2. This is a rhetorical question, right?

3. It wouldn't hurt if more often people were searching a bit before asking such elementary questions and so easy to find their answers.

But anyway here it is :

guys, I wonder if buying a projector or even 2 projectors doesn't give you enough "screen estate" ?

I mean the screensize is of course bigger... Q. is how convenient it is to work in relative dark, and maybe there's other problems ... like bulbs getting burnt too quickly.

are there good high-res projectors around ?

does any body use this setup ?

I just googled up the prices:

A beamer is a projector.

You don't necessarily need that much the high resolution(HD 720p or FHD 1080p) as you need it to be as bright as it can be(unless you want to watch movies as well).

This is where the projectors differentiate hugely in prices.

I own the Panasonic PT-AX100 which has 2000 lumens output and in normal lighting conditions it can be used without problems.

The prices of the HD and FHD projectors have dropped incredibly the last 2 years, and it's a no brainer going for one instead for a lcd tv for home theater purposes.

While it would be awesome for studio use, it would need a quite big to huge room(depending on the screen size) and that would introduce more problems regarding the right setup of the mixing position and possibly the acoustic treatment that would be required.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

hmm i heard that the lens of the projectors got only small lifetime (about 1000 hours) and that the replacement of the lens is not profitable because of its extreme expensive price.

Are you sure you heard about the lens? Never heard anything like that.

The only part in a projector that has a certain life cycle is the lamp, this is an average of 2000-4000 hours depending on the model.           A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

it's not the lense, but the light bulb.
It indeed costs too much. It costs as much as 2/3 of the projector.
so, maybe if the bulb goes out close to the max. lifetime it is more reasonable to buy a new projector.

so, Alex, if you fix the projector on the ceiling arm, hang it 2-3 meters from the projecting wall... don't you get a bigger than 30" screen size ?

I think it doesn't really hurt mixdown position, but the old projectors used to be NOISY, so this is a "no go into a studio, unless you position the projector outside the recording room.

Most projectors today will give you at least 60"-80" at least from 2-3 meters, if not more.

The problem with the mix position is related to the size of the screen so you only move your eyes and not the head The grid effect is fortunately a thing of the past with the new lcd projectors, so you can be very close to the screen. Dlp projectors are always not bright as the lcds.

Another problem that could arise would be that, depending on the size of the screen and after placing the monitors in each side of it the equilateral triangle would be considerably larger resulting to insufficient monitoring of the speakers if they are not big enough.

In most cases a max of 60" would be just on the limits to maintain the triangle with the nearfields we mostly have.

But the question is for how long you are going to resist temptation knowing that you can go 100" in a sec?

My screen is 120" and everything is enjoyable to the max but i never even thought connecting my pc to my projector. I'm not looking for trouble........

As far for the lamps they are not as expensive as you say. I'm checking every now and then the prices and they have been stabilized around the 1/3 of the price of the projector maybe a bit more depending on the model. What you say stands for CRT projectors but they are dead long time now.
