Nope. it's a TN judging by the spec (160 degrees viewing angle).
Also I know that there has been lot's of issues with their 24" *VA panels since the overdrive they use to speed up the response has resulted in inverse ghosting.
Not so much an issue for production, but if you plan to use it for movies or gaming as well it can be a problem.

Response time is usually a marketing statistic that varies depending on how the measurement was made. (Damned lies and statistics!)
Response is essentially the speed it takes a pixel to change from one colour to another.
Slower speeds result in overlapping images observable as 'trails' after moving images (such as dragging a window) or ghosty blurry videos.
5ms is very fast, unless you're playing 3D games or video you will never notice it.

Completely agree it's annoying, but I love my screens and consider it a major time saver and a real aid to work flow. A glance to anything you require is much easier than a drag/resize/minimise/tab. I haven't resized or dragged a window in months, everything appears in its own space and where I expect it. I can't imagine the time I would waste flicking between windows or moving things just to see other things.
The segregation of tasks is much more visual with separate screens.. think tracks vs instruments or playback vs analyser.
Work flow is so important to me, I forget ideas quickly and messing about with the windows is just a speedbump on the road from brain to sequencer.

That's SO chunky! Why such a low resolution for a massive monitor? My 15 inch laptop does that resolution!

Hahaha! Reminds me of a guy I teach. He has a real mental block sometimes.
I tried to explain why the massive 42" TV he wanted wouldn't show as much as a smaller computer monitor.
Imagine this conversation 50 times, with examples, drawings, scientific reasoning:
"But it's bigger??"
Yeah.. but it'll be stretched, so you won't see more.
"But it's bigger??"
[bangs head against wall]
----------
Years ago when I was the IT guy. The managing director of my the company saw someone with 2 screens, he demanded I set up the same thing in his office so he could feel as important.
10 minutes into his new setup he called me into his office, very angry, demanding I explain why someone elses computer was on one of his screens.
After a second it clicked, he didn't realise you could move the mouse from one screen to another. After about 20 minutes of examples he still didn't grasp the concept.. In frustration I set both monitors to 'mirror mode' (same picture on 2 screens) he went nuts - happy as anything, he ran round the office and got a crowd round his desk showing them he had two identical screens. He kept that setting for 6 months right up until I quit.
Probably still has it that way. It gave me a headache almost instantly!
----------------
Personally for my studio I picked the cheapest possible screens for the dimensions I wanted.
I do not require vibrant colour, fast update speed or better viewing angles - I am directly in front of and stare straight at my screens (equidistant between my monitor speakers)
I never play fast 3D games or watch videos in the studio (other than music tutorials, which tend not to have that many car chases or special effects)

It's true that for studio use the quality of the panel is not vital.
Still even if you don't work with graphics and always sit straight on front of the screen a good panel is nicer to look at...it just looks a lot more like a solid surface.
So whatever you use the screen for, if you do spend a lot of hours in front of it it's really worth getting a model with a good panel IMO.

Sweet, I'll take two!
If I did then my speakers either side of the screens wouldn't fit in my room anymore.
I'd have to get an extension on the house, move my chair back 10 ft and buy some binoculars.

orgytime sorry for hijacking your thread..
i have one question..
before when i used to work on my laptop, with an additional monitor in ableton live, i used to take for instance.. albino or any other instrument or fx and just have it sit on my additional monitor and it would stay there even if i was changing tracks in ableton.. i used to stack all my insruments there on top of each other. now since i got my new computer with two monitors, whenever i go to another track in ableton, whatever instrument is in that track would only show.
i would like to have my virus control just stay on one monitor and not dissapear when i go to onother track.. can someone please help me out? i dont know if there is some setting in ableton that can be changed for that? anyone?
much appreciated. |

avduka, it seems like your virus control should have a "always stay on top" or "float" option somewhere in its window/display preferences maybe. I have no idea how it even looks like so this is just a guess.
Did you check that out?

Get an extra cheap pci(depending on your available slots) graphics card but make sure first that it will support the max resolution you want.

There is a device called the TripleHead2Go from Matrox. It plugs into a graphics card output and makes the card think there is a screen with a massive resolution plugged in.
The adapter splits the outgoing video into 3 outputs and allows you to have 3 monitors from one graphics card..
It's actually cheaper to just buy a new graphics card, but for some people it might be useful.
On a dual output display, you could in theory, split one of the outputs into 3, and have a 4 screen system. (or split both outputs for a 6 screen set up)
Touch overkill methinks.

man, if making music required some expensive displays besides all that sound gear, that would be unfair!
as for me, i have 2 computers here in my studio with 3 displays.
