hi, anyone works with a 26-28" widescreendisplay? costs about 450-600€.
atm im working with 2x21" big old displays (50kg weight each)...
i need more space in my room now, do you think i should buy 2x normal 22" flatsceen for ~500€ or is a 26" widescreen better?
i think its very nice with the 26" widesceen, because there is no cut between, and i got nearly the same workspace for the same money + i can play games with sick screen^^
greetings, orgy

I prefer working with one screen with a higher resolution. The middle strip in between is too annoying for me to work with.
Go for a 30" one if your budget allows it!

Are you talking for a widescreen lcd monitor or lcd tv?
Have in mind that lcd tvs up to 32" have a resolution of 1366 x 768, while a 24"-26" lcd monitor has max resolution of 1920 x 1200.
Other than the tech specs, what you ask is very personal to everyone. Others prefer one big screen(usually 30"), others 2 "normal" sized monitors(20"-22").
I always preferred 3, as i find it even faster to work with. Soon i'll be upgrading to 3 x 24", as i think this is the maximum size for a configuration of three monitors considering other important factors regarding ergonomy, acoustics, equilateral triangle for the mix position without the monitors being too far and therefore difficult to watch etc.
A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life. |

The thing that really matters is resolution rather than size.
Of course if you have a small screen with high resolution it might be straining on the eyes, but AFAIK there is no 26-28" with more than 1920x1200 and I find a 24" to be perfect for that res unless you sit far away from the monitor or have bad eyesight.
30" monitors usually have 2560x1600 which is another story and very nice of your budget allows.
Otherwise I would rather go for a quality 24" with a *VA panel instead of TN. They start from about €600 so should be within your budget.
*VA panels are a lot more pleasurable to look at and good viewing angels is important, especially with big displays.

hey, im thinking of a lcd screen (1920x1200), i i have calculated, that the 26" would be the ~same space like what im workin with at the moment.
i wonder if could need more space --> 30" as you said... but this is really deluxe, and i couldn´t pay it.
i think im fine with 26" one... there are also small differences in the length of the 26" models...
if i need more space later, i could additional buy a cheep normal flat 22" lcd
thx for answers www.soundcloud.com/orgytime |

Basically a 26" will not give you more space, but rather bigger space.
For example with a 24" and 26", both at the resolution 1920x1200, you will be able to view the same amount of channels or plugins at the same time but they will be a bit bigger on the 26".
For playing games or watching films the bigger size of the picture can be nice, but for production it's actually a disadvantage IMO since you have the same amount of information but need to scan a bigger area to see it.
*VA (for example PVA and MVA) and TN is different technologies that LCD panels use.
With *VA panels you get better colour reproduction and viewing angles.
The only advantage of TN panels apart from the cheaper cost is that the response time is a bit better but the image quality is inferior.
And modern *VA panels have around 6 ms which is not an issue even if you are a hardcore gamer or movie fanatic.
If given the choice over a 26" TN and 24" *VA there is not any doubt in my mind which one I would choose.
The only reason as I see it to go for the 26" is if you have bad eye sight or will sit far away from the monitor.

I work with 2x 22"... I am still amazed by the options I have.
Either I can stretch my DAW to fit both screens and have folder browser, VSTi's and mixer on 1 screen and the sequencer on the other, or work with sequencer only on both screens.
Also I can have my DAW on one screen, while working with wavelab (or simular), on the other. Without having to tweak size of the programs, just maximize.
Also if I want to watch a movie, while I surf the net, this is so easy to do with 2 monitors.
Last: You can now have 2 computers without having to switch back and forth with your monitor. I can with 1 press of a button get my right monitor to be the primary of my secondary computer or laptop, and press a button again, and boom, back to having 2 monitors on one system...

1)Because for me it's easier to handle fullscreen applications than resizing windows.
2)because 1280*1024*2 > 1900*1200

I guess it's a matter of preference, but I always found it more of a hassle to work with a dual monitor setup and think resizing windows is easy as pie.
Of course it's nice to have as much screen estate as possible and I wouldn't say no to another 24". But given the choice between two 1280x1024 screens and one 1920x1200 the extra 13% of screen estate the dual screen solution offers is simply not worth the inconvenience I find it brings.
@XuN
The main issue is the amount of screen estate and you can certainly divide the surface of a single screen as you like as well and it's just as easy to for example browse the net while you surf if that's your thing.
But if you play games or watch movies, (without surfing at the same time) obviously you want one big surface rather than two smaller.
With regards to screen estate though two 22" sure beats a 24" for production.
But it seems hard to find decent 22" panels since most of them are TN's, and if you do they are quite costly.
