Hi all,
I was wondering how you guys do manage your time… it might sound a kind of weird, but if you consider that to make good music takes large slice of your life time and besides you have girls (or man for girls), family, friends, sport (possibly??), parties, it starts to make sense. Or not? I’ve been having problem with it… lol
I would appreciate your comments.
Be good

depends on your priorities
what you put first. what you must do. what you decide to do.
if you love it then you have to miss other things.. no compromises sorry
i go family-friends-music-work
friends and music switching order in times
music goes first and nobody see me
family is always first
be good too

sacrifice your time , money , girls , sports , parties , family-time, work.
offcourse you can do it in some levels , starting from 2 hours on the weekend for the music up to close yourself in a room and not come out unless golden album is under your hands.
sounds hard , it is. and you dont get paid often. sometimes never. still up for that? allright! now you know you LOVE to make music!

hmm... whatever you want to do in life, hard working is always a good way to take… I think, but sacrifice? It sounds a bit like Jesus and the cross… but it is also necessary.
don’t get paid might be a problem too… all equipment parts are veeeeeery expensive. that’s why I suggest to have a job or another career besides music producer. At least when starting it.
For me, wife (I’m married), sport, parties and family bring me some good music inspiration too… the problem is always to have time! Maybe should give up sleeping all night. |

People always do what they want.
The time is automatically distributed between you task, proportionally to your priorities.
Nothing to care about, imho ;=)
Just stay tuned, to always know what is currently most important for you.

yes its exacly like jesus exept that he didnt WANT IN ALL HIS HEART to be on the cross.
it will take YEARS to learn and practice in pro level... and to get all the gear for sure... but thats ones mission in life then nothing if greater then that.
i totaly invest all my money in studio instead nice car and furnitures , not working as much for having all the money i want for learning more about sounds
but... hell... second album out makes me so proud of myself like never before and im still young to do all the rest that life has to offer too.. if i choose to get of the synrhs
anywayz you are blessed , the problem is people that have more time then they need and watch tv all day long.. atleast you know you are productive in many ways! www.sattelbattle.com

But if you have to work to suport yourself...i mean spending 9 to 10 hours a day outside, it's really hard to find the time and mental strenght for music!!!!! You simply became a guy who "plays" with the PC in the week-ends until you quit doing something serious with your music!!!!!
It's very hard to be creative and have a priority scale when you work 10hours a day...
From my experience, being a part-time musician is no good!!!!!

It's very subjective...
A lot of musicians have a job, kids, etc., but still make and release music, play at parties etc...

haha yeah i wish there where 30hours a day. I wish i could get more time in my studio but we just got a new house, have a 2,5 year old daughter who loves to play with dad, a wife that works "night" shift and myself doing 12 hour shifts. My priority is: Family, and then friends, music, execise comes second. But stil the "family" part takes alooot of my time. Im considering getting up early and hitting the studio. For me its a hobby still so that will maybe change in the future. Oh yeah, not to mention the work i need to put in the new house.....arhh, AND if i dont, my wife will punch hole in my monitors Oh yeah, just got a bios issue on my pc, so now theres no time in studies til thats taken care of (

Become a teacher & get paid for doing nothing 3 months a year. I'm not a big fan of depending on your music for a living. Makes you compromise/competition-minded and less relaxed. Unless you are sure you're good enough your chances are fair to pull it off but I doubt many of us are. So get a job with lots of free time & get used to sleeping 6h/night & finishing 1 song every month (or two). That's how I do it & happy about it.

ooouuffff... it is a such relief to read all you guys posted. I'm not the only one!! hahahahahaha
job takes the biggest slice including the mental one, which I suppose is the most important for music production. when I get home I just wanna be quiet... after 9 hours in front of computer (excel, outlook, word, sap, etc).
the best probably would be a good sponsorship (like family sponsor... lol), but it is not my case. I will keep on trying. |

Unfortunately this is my experience...
@Medea
in my case it's not subjective at all...during the week i arrive home (studio) usually at 19pm after 10 hours of hard work (mental) and not that much energy is left!!!! Even if i really want it bad...i usually only get work done, on my music, during the week-end..which for my "ambitions" is not enough!!!!
