higher sampling rate is part of the improvment made in software ...even if we stick to 44.1 to 96 khz the plugins we will use for analog emulation will probably run at 50 times or more that rate when computer can handle it in some years to get closer to analog gears. |

He means the AD/DA converters, for them indeed oversampling can be used, but these sound systems are the exception to the rule. When we increase the bandwidth of a sample, the anti-aliasing filter is less complex, the cutoff isn't as steep as with lower sampling rates, meaning less sharp.
Now unless you have a gig @ Space which indeed has a very good and very big sound system, or if you use dynamite converters at home (not the ones most of us can afford but the real high end that cost way too much), there is no reason to do so. Note also that the difference is audibility is so minimal even on those huge systems, that it is nothing but splitting hairs and of course marketing. After all, 20 khz frequency is the limit. Not the sky that they promise you when they're trying to market their systems...
