The engineer was driving his desk a bit too hard at one point. There was some more headroom in the amps (according to Tristan) and he requested that the engineer cranked the sound up a notch. He did so, but from the front of house desk (which was well into the reds), but I think soon after he realized that and simply turned the amps up and pushed the front of house desk down.
The distortion was there, but not for long.
