Frankly, the domain naming process is a real head ache. The process usually contains the following headlines:
Taken
Yes! Though I don’t really like this name!
Taken
Expensive to buy
Taken again
Yes! Ouch … misspelled
Taken
AAAAAAAAAAAAAA … I can’t take it anymoooooooore!!!!!!
Repeat the steps above depending on how much you believe in your idea So here are tips for your domain name. Hope this would make your life easier and the process shorter
1. Don’t use dashes in your domain names and avoid numbers if possible.
2. Before buying a domain, pronounce it loudly. Does it sound well and is it understandable? Pretend as if you were going to say it over the phone.
3. Try taking domain names with less than 10 letters.
4. Don’t use too many words in your domain name. Try making it no more than 3.
5. Check if domain name and its zone fit each other (e.g. money.biz , video.tv, business.com)
6. Don’t use very competitive keywords in your domain name, unless you know what you are doing.
7. Don’t hurry even if you have in mind 10 good domain names. Selling them is not an easy task. Better choose 2-3 to buy.
8. Try buying expired domains. You can catch domain with PR (Page Rank), BL (Back Links) and avoid Google Sandbox.
9. Use your imagination; this could give nice results (e.g. del.icio.us, click.it, newspla.net)
10. Don’t forget to check for discounts while registering or renewing your domains. This will save your money.
11. Invest in future. The past has been sold.
12. Sometimes it’s easier to buy “tasty” domains on auction, than wasting time thinking of a good name.
13. Parking a domain name while it’s not in use yet, could give you additional benefit.
14. Registering domains after midnight possibly is not a good idea. You may regret it in the morning.
15. Use “whois privacy” services a.k.a. private registration. This allows you to keep your personal information confidential!
16. Keep all of your domains in one place. Chose a trusted registrar and always renew domains without delaying it.
17. Avoid one-time-news domains. Today's news is tomorrow’s garbage.
18. Check the readability of the domain name. schoollinks doesn’t look as well as schoolsites. Also, pay attention to the situation when the end of first word could be intended as the beginning of second: turtleshell (turtles hell or turtle shell?)
19. Stay away from domain names with negative vibes: SlowBuy, SiteDown
20. It is a mistake thinking that you have to register domain names with your hosting provider. I recommend keeping it separated.
