+1

probably the same cd that has all the "world" samples that have been used by gaudi, shulman, ott, shpongle, androcell and almost everyother psychill artist on the globe. can't remember the name of the cd but i'm sure somebody'll drop the name.
shpongle were one of the first to take advantage of the album and succeeding in the album sales. so after that everybody else sounded like a shpongle rip-off. that's life... and that's why i also generally dislike the idea of using melodies or vocals from sample cds.

They used a bunch of different libraries made by Spectrasonics. If you would like to see which ones some of them are referenced on the Wiki articles of the respective Shpongle albums

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Are_You_Shpongled%3F

"The throat singing in the beginning of "Divine Moments of Truth" is taken from a sample cd called ‘Vocal Planet’ by Spectrasonics"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tales_of_the_Inexpressible

"A New Way to Say Hooray! contains vocal and choir samples from the sample CD "Heart of Africa Volume 2" by Spectrasonics"            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

I'm kind of OK with people using sample libraries and stuff like this. No matter that the stuff in DMT is taken from a sample library - it sounds damn good.

Also - I don't exactly have the capability to go to Africa and be a professional recording person and sample these people. Well, I *could* - but I'd rather spend that time and money making music

yeah, i know...
but it's just disappointing and disillusioning and at the end frustrating and boring to hear the same yodles again and again. that's why i respect artists like seb taylor and labels like interchill who go for the extra effort and use session musicians.
most of the artists mentioned in my 1st reply have made some collaboratrions too but i'd like to see more of it in the future.
and ofcourse it's fully understandable that artists with a very limited budget, no label support, no musician connections use sample cds.

just my 2 cents...

Sure let's all use session musicians and big studios and pay 1000's of dollars in musicians/studios fees and end up selling 200 copies

Back to reality.

It's OK to use samples. Each to his own way of using them. In the end it's the way you use them.

Of course they do but very very few sell enough to being able to hire studio musicians unless they got a rich daddy           www.beatagency.dk

well, i think you can go more than half the way if you have/lend/hire a couple of decent mics and have a place of your own/hire a small booth for a day or two to record friends/music students. it doesn't have to be ravi shankar at abbey road straight away you know

i've done recordings at home with friends and people who have answered to ads on musician forums with cheapish mics. yeah, the results aren't ultra mega top notch but it's OUR unique material...
i've payed them from my own advance money and some have done it just for the FUN of it (read: for free).

remember... FUN?

Well my point is that samples are fine and that most do not have the funds to records original samples of example an African ensemble (I doubt friends will sound original). It can also be fun just to use samples

Again each to his own but these days there's so little income from releasing music(if any) that it would be financial suaside to have to pay studio sessions (I doubt you'll get a good recording from a homemade mix and some friends trying to sound ethnic or tribal).

And yes it's all about fun but then again it's not fun any longer when you loose money

To get back on topic. It's fine to use samples.           www.beatagency.dk

my friends make a great african ensemble!

...and i didn't say it's not ok to use samples.
i said it's boring as a music listener to hear the same samples being used unaltered again and again. and that i personally try to avoid using melodies or vocals from sample cds. mmkay?           "no one ever sweats on a plug-in" -moby

It's boring to hear the same shit again and again after .. well .. 20 years of listening to the (almost) same genre. But no one can deny the genius of using those samples for the first time in the psy0hcill category

i also think it is nice to recored your own stuff.
if you use sample so the last you can do is not put it as a main channel in the mix
any way , each one and his own taste
