who does this here?
i made some very good almost subbass in vanguard and gave tried to give it character with albino on top... i know that some artists do this some times...
my question is how do i equalize them to work "right" with each other. should i lowcut the first and highpass the other?
this should work but the results are not too clean...
anyone?           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

vanguard is very underated, im glad to see other people are using it and thinking outside the "full-on box".

keep in mind: im not a pro (in any sense of the word) anyway, i'd do it the way you mentioned. but i have noticed that subbass seems to be a little "runny" and may screw up your kick. so you'll have to watch it a little more than regular bass.           The IsraTrance MySpace Group:

I do that almost all the time, but as s0ft says could ruin a kick, maybe the lowcut bass could be soften in attack, so it will smoothly continuied with kicks and i like to put it close behind the kick's in matrix, and if the kick sound not too oxigeny, this low bass will give the kick warmer, and the other bass run the harmony, just my experience. everyone have their own way and taste.          founder http://www.enkienterprise.com

yeah IMO you wanna bandpass the first, (HPF at like 35 and LPF at 100Hz, which is the most common subwoofer corssover freq anyway) hipass the second somewhere near 100Hz, adjust until there is no audbile bump or dip between the two. if it still sounds crap the filter may be too steep, sometimes steep filters cause phase irregularities and distortions. if necessary temporarily LPF out all the mids and highs so you can concentrate on what you're doing.

also, if a subbass is flappy, and you cant seem to get the envelopes tight enough for it, you can always try bouncing it to audio and then hacking up the bassline and using cubase dynamics (fade handles and volume handles) to get more surgical.

(also i might be totally crazy, but i could swear that even "sample accurate" VSTi MIDI is less tight than audio...maybe i just have too much hate for MIDI)

as for full on, as we alluded to in another thread, its the tempos in combination with the skull hammering basslines of trance that cause brainwave entrainment and which thus make trance, so i fail to understand why full on would ever be too small a box for a site called "isratrance"

full0n is TEH AWESOME

as long as the rest of the ideas above the bass and kick are "full on," as in the writer's mind is in the "on" position rather than in the half turned-off "add wizzy effects and hope nobody notices how boring this is" mode...

something i have noticed w/ subbass. a lot of the freqs are felt more than heard. so the volume is a hard thing to handle when put next to a kick. the kick will sound really weak compared to the power of the subbass. its just hard to find the right volume balance between subbass and the kick.

any tips?           The IsraTrance MySpace Group:

Fix your 2 bass lines in the right volume each. remeber that should not be the same volume. send them to a group where you can mix the 2 signal in 1 chanell and then eq should do it. good luck

if you get the nice clean, not to much tail of sub bass with a lower volume, it will fit right behind the kick, depend if your kick adjust to a fat, t(H)ick, slightly with hi-compression. It will make it like a short reversed kick I mean, but gotta be punchy and warm. This bass no need to be hammering or it could be just one tone in roll. (For a clean ramble), and let the other bass a little melodic or hammering (we are talking about two track of bassline here, are we?) but i think hammering sound is not simply the key of making the psyCHEDELIC trance for my taste, and I don't need to kick the floor to gather the dust to feel in trance, but don't forget the key to move as Adi-Quantize says "its all about groupes (groove?). But again its all about taste, people have a different taste and thats make the scene colorful.
Groovy, twisty and dark is a good partners for me.
