not sure it really need inovation..personally would enjoy more it go back to the roots..early 90s stuff ..it would sound very innovative , most of us never enjoyed that sound..
blend of techno house dnb/break trance.. but keeping every influence true to psychedelic music .. |

@PoM
that sounds similar to what Mckenna used to say: the way out of history is a forward escape into the past.
Should we have our "Archaic Revival" thing? If that means enjoying a bigger level of creative freedom in approaching the tools we have today, I say yes.
Bass is just something that sits on the low end and drives the music, holds it together. As long as that particular function is met, you can go nutz. Some people here argued that the formula is there because it works and there's no need to change what's not broken. Some said even outsiders claim it's the less interesting part of the music, because it gets predictable and uninspiring.
There's something to it: it makes absolute mathematical sense to use it like that. And if done right, it almost resembles the drum a shaman would bang to drive the tribe into a trance state. Just by following this kind of rythm in our heads it makes us more aware of cycles within music and we seem to enjoy the inteligence put into playing with patterns and harmonies inside this fixed geometries. Perhaps even a possible definition for music itself.
But when you get to a stage where you hardly see anyone using an FM sound as Bass, for example. Where everyone - or almost everyone - is using sawtooth waves, low or no resonance on the filter, the filter envelope always with similar shapes, so forth and so on...
I think it's kind of weird that there are few exceptions to the norm in a scene that has psychedelic as a first word on it.
I dare you to dare and think outside the box and venture through territories unexplored.

yeah i think that also lead riffs and melody's became a bit taboo in psytrance i can remember that when psytrance had climax's were everything went loose ! crazy melody's from left to right ! everything is possible and emotion and expression was central ! well lets stay positive about psytrance and it will come back in its true form ! i think that the mainstream psytrance is pretty boring and its good to try new things out but the blent of dubstep and so on ! the new people who stept in to the mainstream like it because it sounds reconizable to commercial styles ! gladly i hear allot new arist grabbing to the old influences we will all return to gaia |
