The Groovy Troopers will be celebrating their 10th anniversary on 15 November 2008 with the first in a series of annual Mandala Projects.

A decade on and the spark that first ignited the Troopers into action is still alive and kicking. It's been an intergalactic adventure of sorts, chasing the faery-hunt with pounding rhythms and stamping feet. All the while, we've been diligently cooking up ever more splendid psychedelic adventures and elixirs of groovology, helping to keep the spirit of psytrance alive and invigorated.

It all started in October 1998 when we packed all the furniture into the garage, borrowed a sound-system and dropped notes into neighbours' postboxes informing them that an important pagan festival was about to be celebrated! Over the next few years, the Groovy Troopers grew by word-of-mouth, becoming icons in the Gauteng electronic underground.

Relocating to Cape Town in 2002, the Troopers mischievously kicked off in the Mother City with Lorax. Since then, we've tranced away on mountain tops, rooftops, lakeshores, forest and pastoral scenes, making the most of the great outdoors and the burgeoning local trance scene. We've contributed a breath of refreshingly playful air, doing our bit to keep psytrance culture vital, while introducing a new hybridity of genres and beats. During the winter of 2004 we even ventured into pure psychedelic electronic experimentalism and hedonism with our liminal Virus parties. While experimental lines of psychedelic flight have continued in the Viral Lounge, psy-trance enjoys main-floor pre-eminence. Summer 2004 saw us return to pounding psy-rhythm signatures with our first international act, Absolum. Since then, luminaries like Eat Static, Koxbox, Cosmosis, Sirius-Isness and Bliss have joined local talents in flying the Trooper banner and cooking up dance-floor mayhem. In the true nature of psychedelic trance, all styles and forms of full-on and progressive continue to appear on the roster at Groovy Trooper events.

We've come a long way from humble beginnings, growing organically and staying true to the original spirit of the groove. While productions have grown in size and splendour, we've always retained our sense of cosmic playfulness and integrity. Manifesting the Groove is our earthly mission – our intent is to unlock the Trooper in each and every one of us (and you!). So, with generous helpings of divine rhythms and splashes of psychedelic colour, we invite you to join us as we party on into the psychedelic future!

VIRAL LOUNGE

As part of our 10-year anniversary celebration the Troopers will be hosting a special-edition of the Viral Lounge feat. Phantomsound.

Starting at noon on Saturday with dub and trip hop, beats will progress into afternoon electro party breaks and flow into evening minimal. Late night IDM, psychedelic electronica & ambient dub will soothe and scintillate before evolving into morning glitchy fun and soulful dub-step. Proceedings will end-off on Sunday afternoon with more ‘move your hands and elbows’.

On the line-up is the UK’s Kanan K7 (Digital-Hive Records), playing the latest minimal. Joining him on this exciting excursion through sound are some of Cape Town’s finest boundary-dissolving musical experimenters. Bring your dancing shoes (& your cushions) for two afternoons, an evening and a glorious morning of Trooping the Groove, viral stylee!

All this will go down on a 6K rig sponsored by Killa Audio.
