Hey ppl, plz help me here....

I´m thinking about how can I improve my pc peformance. Let me first tell my pc configuration: P3 850, 256 Mb ram, 20/80 Gb HD. I´m running Windows XP from 20HD and I let 80HD for storage. And I´m using Cubase SX for music making. I´m having some latency problems here....

What I´m thinking is to install Windows 2000 Professional only for music making. I can make a partition on 80HD and use one for programs(with W2000 Pro) and other partition for storage. And let other 20HD for regular stuff(like net,Word, games) with Windows XP.

Anyone can tell me if it´s a nice way to get best results on pc performance???

Thanks in advance....           LOADING...

Well no use really to install both 2000 & XP because it works on the same system.
IMO you should install 2000 and that's it.

your biggest problem is that cubase SX is working best with windows xp so your plan gets kind of stuck inthe way here..

Yep, as Mike said, XP is just the improved version of 2000 kernel. So though, there will be no difference. However, it will only make the performance worse. If you really want to improve your performance - set your virtual memory to be located on your 80GB HD. It is faster than 20GB. If you know which UDMA they are - you will know why ... And other thing - it is always recommended to set virtual memory space on different media from the system media.
Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

The 1st thing is getting a single 133ATA hd, the main problem is multi-drive systems. stick with the XP, only Pro Edition, Plus Check the Mboard. the think is to hae a good Mboard w/ good chipset.
plus get faster memory (133MHZ, or chnage to P4 with rambus. 800Mhz memory clockspeed sure does the trick.). Good luck man.           "The Blues is'nt about making you feel better. It's about making others feel worse, and make a few bucks while you're at it." - "Bleeding gums" Murphey.
